VELOCITY 5D - FAQs

Digital Twin Generation

What is VELOCITY 5D?

VELOCITY 5D is our Comprehensive geospatial high-fidelity 3D digital twin platform for location intelligence in 5D, that empowers organizations and communities to interpret the world around them. Thanks to our Cloud Platform for VELOCITY 5D, users can:

  • Rapidly generate digital twins at scale - country-scale production in hours, not days or months.

  • Create simulation-ready, high-fidelity 3D terrain. Taking advantage of AI/ML and photo-realistic templates that can be fused with other data and 3D scenes generated in real-time.

  • Control the level of investment in your data. You can determine how much and what data you bring to create your geospatial digital twin, in interoperable geospatial 3D formats.

What is '5D', in VELOCITY 5D?

In short, Context. It all starts from an axis, passing to a position (2D), integrating variables such as depth for depth perception (3D) and integrating time (4D) where entities behave differently as well as features changes, combining all with the correlation of geospatial data and entities to derive insightful information to solve a particular problem, giving context to our world by providing what-if scenarios for better decision-making purposes (5D).

5D provides customers with 3D simulation-ready content for what-if planning scenarios, such as disaster response, or human interactions, such as pedestrian or traffic.

What can I do in VELOCITY 5D?

As a VELOCITY 5D subscriber, you can:

  • Visualize your Geospatial Digital Twin from a standard web-browser

  • Upload your own GIS source data content and 3D models

  • Use our AI/Ml algorithms to extract:

    • Building Footprints

    • Rooftop type

    • Rooftop colour

    • Vegetation (area)

  • Modify your 3D Content

    • Replace procedural generated 3D Content with new (import) 3D Objects

    • Modify Building Height, Rooftop type and façade

    • Create procedural building data (i.e., house, industrial complex, apartments, etc.). Ability to change associated templates for a given regional footprint

  • Export your Digital Twin to an interoperability format you choose and download the result

How does V5D help users to visualize in 3D, what is the added value compared to 2D traditional mapping?

3D mapping provides a window to represent and navigate convoluted datasets and concepts, bringing significant benefit to analysis and decision-making. This gives professionals and stakeholders across industries an edge in terms of quality and efficiency of decisions and strategies, which help in generating a more intuitive representation of geospatial data. A mainstay of 3D maps is that they provide analytical data that – through simulation – can be used to help forecast and visualize the outcomes of multiple scenarios and make evidence-based decisions.

Furthermore, 3D makes complexity look easier, when the representation of geospatial data takes into consideration the accuracy of such data, to model dynamic events that use the terrain as a major component of the decision. It is the case for flooding (how water will spread, accelerate…), fire spread, evacuation routes among others.

3D mapping and visualization bridges the gap between experts’ knowledge and stakeholders together with decision makers, putting upfront geographical data in context as a truly geospatial representation of a region, with VELOCITY 5D we want to make complexity look simpler and understandable for the end user.

How do I subscribe to VELOCITY 5D?

Users can access our VELOCITY 5D Portal and click on register. Users can then review all our available 3D Databases available to purchase as well as evaluate (trial – for 30 days) or subscribe to our Digital Twin Creation offering (see "What can I do in VELOCITY 5D?").

Currently output is CDB, what other formats are supported?

V5D currently outputs OGC CDB 1.0 format terrain which is commonly used to support simulation and visualization use cases. Future releases will increase output formats support. Presagis is committed to increasing output format support, please contact [email protected] fto help us to address your needs for your formats.

AI - Synapse Module

What is the synapse module under the VELOCITY 5D Cloud Platform?

Our Synapse module is an AI/ML computer vision algorithm on satellite imagery, that performs Feature Extraction for Building Footprints and Vegetation.

What imagery input format is required?

We currently support jp2, Tiff and Tif as an input format. Our AI extraction is designed to work best on georeferenced imagery at 50cm spatial resolution, and with off-nadir angle of less than 10 degrees.

We suggest having the imagery with the least amount of cloud, and colour-balanced as it will give you the best results for feature extraction.

What is the coordinate reference system of the input (imagery) and output (vector)?

EPSG: 4326 (WGS84)

What attribute information is extracted?
  • Building Footprint

    • Area (meters): Geometry polygon
    • Roof Type: Attribute (Flat or non-flat)
    • Roof Color: Attribute (Average color in HSV)
  • Vegetation

    • Area (meters): Geometry polygon

On-Demand: Commercially Available Simulation-Ready 3D Terrain Databases

What are the attributes or specifications these databases have?

Some of the databases have the following specifications (non-exhaustive list):

  • Geographical coverage (extents)
  • Multiple levels of detail (LOD)
  • Base imagery
  • Elevation
  • Ground lightmaps
  • Hydrography
  • Roads
