Shadow Mapping in High Performance Visual Simulations

Presagis shadow mapping feature is supported in its visualization toolkit Vega Prime and its turnkey image generator Lyra. A brief background on shadow mapping and its caveats are presented here, followed by descriptions of various techniques employed to address common problems with shadow mapping. Strategies are discussed on how to balance high frame rates with key training objectives. Finally, the roles shadows play with Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and Infra Red (IR) wavebands are discussed. Working illustrations from Vega Prime are provided.
