COTS OpenGL Software Eases Certifiable Avionics Code

Using COTS graphics software for avionics displays can offer significant benefits to the system developer if the COTS software supplier can meet the certification challenges required by the FAA, known as RTCA/DO-178B. Even better, display development tools are now available which generate OpenGL calling C code. Such tools allow system developers to implement highly complex displays in very short time scales, all the while keeping a close eye on the certification requirements they’ll eventually face.
