Virtual Marine Technology - On-Water Immersive Training

Virtual Marine Technology provides Lifeboat and Fast Response Craft Operators with immersive training for on-water activities.

Together with Memorial University of Newfoundland, Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) has developed MissionQuest and SurvivalQuest, two simulators that allow for the easy development and delivery of mission training in a safe simulated environment.

While MissionQuest provides mission training for Fast Response Crafts (FRC) operating at high speeds in variable sea states, the SurvivalQuest simulator enables lifeboat operators to practice launching in simulated high sea states and poor weather conditions.

A major challenge on both projects was to develop the hydrodynamic models to accurately represent ship performance in variable sea states and to subsequently present those models in a real-time training environment. To address this challenge, VMT adopted Vega Prime – Marine to create immersive training environments that mimic the mission conditions that both FRC and lifeboat operators will encounter on the open sea.
