Better Transportation Management Through Visualization
cpfloridaatlantic_large_lgs

The simulation of an Abacoa Intermodal Station is an on-going development being created by Florida Atlantic University's Department of Urban and Regional Planning in cooperation with the Abacoa Development Company and the Florida Regional Transportation Authority. This simulation demonstrates an intermodal transportation gateway for the next decade in the new urbanized community of Abacoa. This station links multiple modes of transportation (car, rail, bus, bicycle, pedestrian) to assist in alleviating South Florida's growth-generated traffic congestion.

The database for Total Modal Abacoa was developed as part of a Planning and Growth Management course taught by Dr. Clifford Bragdon, Distinguished Professor and Center Director at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Using site plans, and design documents created by students taking the course, the Center for Intermodal Transportation Safety and Security at FAU constructed real-time 3D/4D simulation of this future station, demonstrating how it would look and function in the real world over time. The resulting product was presented at the 2003 Palm Beach County Transportation Summit at the Muvico Parisian Theater in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was presented before a theater audience of over 200 members of the South Florida professional community representing business, academic and government.
