CAD Center - Harbor Simulation
The Simulator Division at the CAD Center develops training simulations for safety navigation using Creator, Creator Pro, and Vega Prime Marine.
The CAD Center designs and develops training simulations for teaching the safe navigation of ships through harbors. While these simulations were initially used only in schools in Japan, the CAD Center has begun developing training simulations for harbors around the world, including the Strait of Dover, Jakarta, and Sydney.
To render the rippling waves and wakes, the Simulation Division uses normal bump map textures in Vega Prime Marine and generates the textures with NVIDIA CUDA. In addition, they use pre-generation instead of real-time rendering because the GPU computing increases the realism and immersiveness of the ship handling simulators.
For their training simulations, the Simulation Division uses external reference to create the harbor models, light points to construct the night scenes, LOD to generate elements of the scene, and Deform to simulate famous landmarks, including the roof of the Sydney Opera House.
