The “Most Valuable Plug-In or Application Based on a Presagis Product API” award is given to the customer or partner who adds the most valuable functionality to a Presagis solution using a software API or extension capability. The criteria for evaluation include the design of the new application or capability as well as its optimization and performance. This year’s recipient is Adacel Inc. for their Adacel Terrain Tool.
Adacel’s Terrain Tool is based on the Presagis OpenFlight API and was developed as part of a project for the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA contracted Adacel to create Air Traffic Control Tower Simulator Systems that included 70 visual databases (VDB). Adacel developed their Terrain Tool to meet requirement challenges for the systems and to assist the team in building the numerous VDBs under a tight production schedule.
Working with the OpenFlight API, Adacel’s Terrain Tool takes care of modeling movement areas by preparing more than 85% of the work. To achieve this, the Tool first performs a validation of connection types between the surface primitives of a 2D input file and computes the centerlines of primitives that are coded as candidates to be profiled in 3D. Then, the Tool applies processing passes in a precise order, thereby turning the 2D surface into a 3D surface. This allows the database modeler to save days or even weeks when constructing movement areas while, at the same time, ensuring that FAA requirements are met.
