While the model creation process is identical to the creation of any model in Creator, specific VBS2 parameters can be configured when you export the model, such as indicating the type of model (vehicle, house, tree, etc…) and how it will cast shadows in VBS2. The exporter will also use all data available in the model, including the multiple levels of detail (LOD) that you have defined in the OpenFlight file, and export them to the P3D format.
Note: As you might expect, the new release of Terra Vista 6.1 also takes advantage of this new model format to enhance its existing VBS2 output capabilities.

Another great new enhancement to Creator 4.1 is the ability to produce models with varying LOD using its wizards. In the past, models created by wizards such as the bridge wizard were very high quality models but had a lot of textures and vertices that could make them costly to render in a scene, especially if only seen off in the distance.
The new automatic LOD generation capability in Creator allows users to specify switching distances for the generated levels of detail and then proceeds to creating simplified versions of the model geometry, going as far as creating textures out of geometry for some of the less detailed LODs to simplify the number of vertices even further.

Many other enhancements were made to Creator 4.1 and a full list of these improvements can be found in the product’s release notes. If you have not done so yet, head over to the Support Portal to upgrade to the latest version of our 3D model creation toolset.
