Sensor: IR Scene

Vega Prime IR Scene computes and displays quantitative sensor images of natural features, cultural features, and dynamic objects at real-time frame rates.  Both Sensor Prime and Vega Prime use the same OpenFlight source data for geometry, providing you with fully correlated out-the-window and sensor views.

As the most comprehensive COTS toolkit for generating quantitative real-time 3D sensor images, IR Scene supports the rapid creation and deployment of accurate sensor views, including EO, NVG, FLIR (MWIR), and LWIR.  With IR Scene, accurate sensor views can be easily added to any Vega Prime application using either a flexible API or the LynX Prime GUI interface.

Core Features

Evaluates the radiometric equation at real-time frame rates+ details
Generates quantitative images of complete environments, including natural backgrounds, cultural features, mobile objects, and special effects, and is configurable to compute images at the same speed as Vega Prime application (30-60 Hz) processes.
Real-time physics-based simulations with user-selectable fidelity+ details
Provides real-time user-selectable band-specific scene generation at wavelengths from the visible through to the far infrared.
Supports dynamic changes to the environment or perspective+ details
Dynamic changes to the temperature and/or environment are supported and will be correctly interpreted and displayed based on object and terrain materials.
Correlated infrared and OTW views+ details
Specific Vega Prime IR Attributes are used to describe the attributes for geometry in a scene. The attributes will be rendered based upon their infrared properties when viewed by an infrared sensor but will retain their color representation for out-the-window scenes.

IR Scene computes the apparent radiance of a scene from the position and orientation of the observer, producing quantitative radiance values in each pixel in units of W/cm2/sr.  Without using a page-and-replace scheme, IR Scene also supports dynamic changes in scene temperatures as well as per-texel diurnal effects for geospecific/typical databases.

The radiometric calculations used by IR Scene contain components for modeling reflected solar and lunar energy, reflected ambient skyshine energy, path emission and scattering, and thermal emittance.  Optimized for real-time performance, the solution of the radiometric equation involves calculations of both reflected and emitted radiance.  And, given that the spectral band of some sensors is not sensitive to both types of energy, IR Scene allows for the solution of the radiometric equation to include only the desired calculations for optimal performance.

IR Scene is the ideal environment for rapidly creating and deploying accurate real-time sensor simulation applications for simulation or training purposes, and it boasts the following features:

  • accurate, physics-based atmospheric modeling,
  • floating point scene generation prior to rendering,
  • dynamic per-texel time of day radiance,
  • geo-specific material encoding for all materials and mixes, all altitudes, and all orientations for up to four atmospheric models,
  • sample database of 161 accurate materials included.
Accurate real-time 3D infrared scene generation.
