How can I select an object in the heiriarchy diagram and get the object to center into the view plane?

Most of Creator’s graphics views use the same controls. This applies to zoom, pan rotate (for 3d views…). There are two commands that will do what you want.  One is called fit, and the other is called center.  These commands will also work in any of Creator’s views. The fit command will center the selection in the active view and zoom in so that it is easily visible in the view.  The center command will just center the selected item in the view.  To use the fit command, you can use the shortcut key ‘v’, or you can use the icon on the top tool bar halfway between the lasso and joystick icons. (it looks like a selected quad with arrows pointing at it.)  The shortcut for center is ‘c’.

So the complete answer to your question is:

1) select the item in the hierarchy view
2) right click the 3d view you want to fit in (this is to select the view without deselecting your geometry)
3) then press v

by the same token, you can also use this to do the reverse, select a polygon/obj/group/lod/etc in the graphics view, right mouse click in the hierarchy view and the press c or v to open up the hierarchy view to the selected node.

Another handy trick is to select a node in the hierarchy then right-click in the 3D view and press the ‘V’ key, which will center & zoom to that node as expected.

Next, press the arrow keys on your keyboard… the 3D view will center & zoom from one selected node to the next.

Left & Right arrows move along nodes at the same level in the hierarchy, the up & down arrows will navigate to different levels of the hierarchy.
