I need to save a custom eyepoint in my model, which happens to be an orthographic top-down view zoomed in to maximize a certain area so that I can take a screenshot in the Full View mode.

No problem, I get everything adjusted to my liking and save this eyepoint in the model, which is always available to me in the future to update my screenshots.

But…

I now need to view a different .flt file which doesn’t have this saved eyepoint location.  All I need to do is go into the Top orthographic view, then type in the coordinates and rotation values right?  Nope.  It doesn’t work.

As soon as I type the desired value in the X or Y field and hit Enter, the number changes to some seemingly random value that is somewhat close, but nowhere near close enough.  The Z value behaves normally, which is probably the most crucial part to me, but the screenshot that I take from the closest X,Y that I can manage does not align with the other screenshots in Photoshop that were taken from the “same” Z and rotation settings.  The scale is way off.

Am I doing something wrong that isn’t blatantly obvious or covered in Creator’s Help document, or is this a bug?  I noticed this months ago, but I don’t recall ever having this problem before in the last ~9 years or so.

(Creator 4.0.1, WinXP 32bit, DOHC-V6, twin turbo w/ Flux Capacitor v.2.5)

TCS,

There are several things besides eyepoint location and direction that affect the view.  Look at View->Viewing Volume and compare the FOV and scale.  If Auto FOV is checked then you should make sure that the Target Vertical FOV and Channel height are the same as the saved Eyepoint.  Also make sure the Ortho projection is set in the View panel, if you are doing a Top view, that should happen automatically.

Another option would be to open the file that has the saved eyepoints and do a File->Eyepoints->Save Eyepoints.  Then open the database you want to view and do File->Eyepoints->Open Eyepoints.  Then you will have the same eyepoints saved in both files.
