point light strings with automatic elevation

Steve,
I have a new question (notice I did not say problem) about entering point light strings.  After entering a few light string with automatic elevation of .5 meter, I get out and make a few adjustment.  I return to enter a few more light strings and when I exit out I made more adjustment to the new strings.  I noticed that the new strings are .5 higher than the old strings.  I tried with the z frozen and unfrozen states and in either case the elevation is raised by .5 for newer strings.  Any ideas to question?

Robert,

I tried to reproduce your description, but I couldn’t get it to happen.  Could you describe what you mean by “a few adjustments”.  Could it be that you moved the trackplane up to 0.5 to adjust the first strings and when you created the second strings, you were using a trackplane at 0.5 and the tool added another 0.5?

Nelson,
I rarely move the tracking plane and I check to make sure the tracking plane is in the X-Y planes and zero offset.  The “minor” adjustments is just fixing the number and/or delta of the lights strings after selecting the Next button before checking the last string entered.  Again I am not offsetting the X-Y plane.  I am using the option inside point light generator of automatic height (z-offset) of .5 meter.  I just thought that the software may be doing a relative offset of .5 for each time I re-enter the point light string function instead of absolve offset of .5 meter.
Thank you for the response.
Robert

Just tried this also and works fine for me too. Wonder what you are doing different Robert, not that there is much you can do different in makeing some light points/strings?

Are you perhaps middle clicking the end points of the first light string to generate your new updated string, thereby offsetting your new string by .5 from the old one (already at .5) and not the tracckplane?  I tried this and got your described result .....

Kent,
Yes I am using the middle button/wheel for add new point lights.  I layout a series of culture template to place taxiway lights on runways.  I want to keep the exact distance from the edge when placing the lights and use the vertices of templates to hold that distance.  So I guess the only two options are 1) exit entering a light string, or 2) try to get as close to template using the left button of the mouse.  Unless someone else can come up with a better option.
Thank you.
Robert
