The first thing to check is your Virtual Memory. Make sure you have allocated a big enough chunk. If you don’t your apps will likely run slower due to memory paging.
Check this on Windows Start Menu>Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings…>Advanced>Virtual memory Change…
Make sure you at least 2GB.
If that is not the issue…
In Creator, there are some preference settings can affect the speed at which a “master” file loads.
Anyway, check these:
-Flight Tab: Read External References - for fastest load time, uncheck. Only really helps if you don’t need to see the contents of all your x-refs. After you load a master file in this way, you can bring in individual x-refs using File>Re-read externals.
-Flight Tab: Read Textures - for fastest load time, uncheck. Like “Read External References”, only really helps if you don’t care to see the textures applied on your models. There are some modeling tasks during which you don’t care to see the textures.
Note that both of these prefs can be “overridden” on the File>Open dialog. This lets you specify whether or not you want to read externals and textures per master db you load.
-Texture Tab: Load Low Resolution Texture Objects - for fastest load time, uncheck. Check this if you run out of memory loading your db.
-Texture Tab: Clear Each Time a Database is Closed - for fastest load time, uncheck. This won’t help load times the first time a master file is loaded, but will speed up loads of database files that use the same texture set as those previously loaded.
Anyway, do check these as they may be contributing to your problem. But then again since you are noticing a slow down on Windows 7 in multiple apps, it could be something more insidious in Win 7.
