Windows 7 slowdown

Since I have switched to Windows 7 I have found that Creator loads files with many external refs much more slowly. This includes switching back to a previously loaded file using the Window pulldown. A file with several hundred simple-building ext refs takes several minutes to appear when switching back to it from another file..

I am running 64-bit Windows 7 on a Dell T5400. I have 12 GB of RAM and a Zotac Geforce GTX 580 graphics card. I’m hoping that there is some system or graphics setting that will alleviate this problem. I have also noticed that TerraVista builds much more slowly..but that is an issue for a different forum.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Quick Map Quad - Python Script

Hello All,

I see that the “Quick Map Quad” function is not currently available through the scripting API. Would it be possible for me to reproduce this functionality using the “Put Texture” command? I am trying to map a group of textures to a group of square polygons.

Here is what I am currently doing:
I am using the geo-coordinates of the texture corners to generate a polygon. I am then mapping that texture to the polygon using Put Texture. I am using three corners of the polygon as the “To Origin”, “To Alignment” and “To Shear” values (an L-shape with positive Y facing up). I am using the same xy coordinates that I am inputing when creating the polygon. Doing this method in the scripting language doesn’t seem to be working correctly. If I do the same thing manually (clicking on the three corners of the polygon) the texture looks fine. Also, if I use the Quick Map Quad function, the texture is mapped correctly as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

When you have a DOF, you can’t translate it in DOF mode. Sooo, is there a way to “lock” a polygon /obj/group so that you cannot translate it similarily?

Some of the crew here accidently keep translating a polygon with texture while creating footprints. They have too many polys with textures to simply use a background image.

As a temporary work around they can use the poly with texture as an external reference aqnd that freezes it, but it would be nice of there is a way to make a polygon/obj/group non-editable

Hi All,

RFE for the Make externals function.

Please can the Output Folder be remembered certainly within a session and hopefully between sessions
Likewise can the Output prefix also get remembered.

Seriously annoying having to change it when there are lots of externals to generate, especially if you don’t want to do them all at the same time.

Thanks,

Is it possible to set within the define attributes for EDGE , the distance/length of the line?

Then it would be simple to grab the edge, and see immediately the pop up ID with the given attribute distance.

I’m interested in hearing from users of Extended Materials. In particular, I’d like to know if textures get used to provide various colors of the Shading model. Also, are Surface Modifiers commonly used?

Basically, I’m looking for users of this community that have started using Extended Materials. Raise your hand and let me (and others) know what you’ve done with this feature and how you use it.

Thanks,

Tiled ground texture

I am using a 512x512 grass texture to create a tiled ground texture for a large flat surface. The resulting textured surface looks very regular. You can see a grid pattern established by the tiled texture (see attached pic). Is there a way I can randomize the way the texture is tiled to give a more random appearance to my terrain?

I’d appreciate any suggestions.

FLIR visibility indication script

Happy new year everybody!

This kind of builds on the prior post. Im really note a coder still :

Im trying to code a script that:

Shows the FLIR values on polygons by swapping their primary color temporarily for an unique green.

The .flt files to run this on actually use the comments for indicating the FLIR material so:

I need to get the polygons of a similar material comment
Change their primary color to a green
repeat for all other material comment groups

be able to have this change as temporary.

For the temp I’ll simply not save the file,

This is just a visible cue to see if the model is properly coded prior while modeling.

but I seem to really mess the code up:

db = <span style="color:
