Innovative solution used to create databases for multiple correlated simulation systems and to improve the performance of existing terrain databases.
Richardson, Texas ­ - MultiGen-Paradigm®, Inc., a leading provider of realtime 3D visual simulation software, was granted a United States Patent (number 7,034,841B1 ) for its OrthoGen database production technology. The OrthoGen technology enables users to generate synthetic sourceimagery by rendering a terrain database. This patent complements MultiGen's patented Virtual Texture technology.

OrthoGen is useful in cases where systems using different technologies need to be correlated. In example would be correlating a radar system whose database requires polygons to describe terrain surface characteristics with a visual or infrared system that is optimized to accept imagery based descriptions of the surface. In this case a polygonal terrain surface would be built to the specifications of the radar then OrthoGen would render the terrain and capture imagery for use in the infrared and OTW systems.
OrthoGen is unique in that it can also be used to improve the performance of an existing database by converting the polygons in the various levels of detail into pixels within a Virtual Texture. The OrthoGen technology thus allows users to generate a high performance visual database that correlates with databases designed for other types of systems such as a radar database or a database that can not consume geo-specific imagery. The OrthoGen technology is fully integrated with the MultiGen's Creator Terrain StudioTM product line and has already been used successfully by many MultiGen customers
