Using Integrated Procedural Modeling Techniques for Rapid and Cost-Effective Terrain Database Construction
Session: 3D Workflow for efficient training applications
Recent influences from the commercial gaming industry are creating increased expectations and demands on the fidelity and quality of the terrain databases used in the M&S domain. As the level of fidelity increases for ground based simulations, the complexity and cost associated with manually developing these terrain databases also increases exponentially. As a result, database developers are looking for more efficient and cost-effective processes and methodologies to rapidly generate these terrain databases. This presentation will discuss procedural methods utilized for automated 3D modeling and terrain generation and present current initiatives that are being undertaken to reduce the complexity, time, and cost of creating high-resolution synthetic environments through procedural modeling techniques. It will focus on the cost and time savings benefits when implementing this technology in existing and new training applications.
