Global Seminar: Bonn
Solving Complex Terrain Database Challenges
This unique seminar brings together thought leaders from Presagis and industry in visual simulation terrain database development. Speakers will discuss current challenges and innovative, practical techniques that use the Common Database (CDB) specification to assist organizations to save time and money in the development of terrain databases.
A complimentary light lunch will be served at this event.

Topics Covered
Mapping the Environment into Simulation Systems
Guest Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel Wolfgang Hengstler - Army Warfighting Simulation Centre, Chief Geo Information Simulation Section
Our guest speaker OTL Wolfgang Hengstler, member of the Bundeswehr, will give an overview of the German Army's current progress in modeling the environment and generating environmental databases for their training and simulation applications. He will also discuss how they will work on standardizing information and databases across the organization.
From Raw Data to Running System: How CDB Will Save Organizations Time and Money
Nick Giannias, Vice President of Research and Technology at Presagis
In the past, an offline or runtime processing approach utilizing disparate tools was used to compile databases. With this approach, different databases were created for each runtime system, correlation issues were common, and, when the overall application needed updating, the updates had to be implemented in each of the databases. Also, if the system suffered correlation problems, it was difficult to isolate and resolve such issues.
In this presentation, Mr. Giannias will discuss how using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software, open standards such as CDB, and an integrated portfolio of modeling and simulation tools can offer ways to overcome these challenges. Going one step further in the application production workflow, Mr. Giannias will also talk about how to easily add simulation capability, including simulated forces and entities driven by advanced artificial intelligence, to synthetic environments based on open standards such as CDB.
Going Inside: Generating Virtual Tunnels and Building Interiors
Kenny Hebert, Content Creation Product Management at Presagis
Operations in urban terrain pose significant challenges. Unlike combat in more open areas, urban combat adds many levels of complexity and danger for the soldier. Elevated firing positions from rooftops, restricted movement in corridors and alleys, as well as the persistent danger of unexpected attacks due to restricted visibility are all aspects soldiers need to train for in today’s urban warfare. Procedures for clearing buildings, subterranean networks and tunnels need to be rigorously trained and enforced.
Mr. Hebert will present new concepts and methodologies to solve current terrain database challenges, including the creation of different types of underground tunnels and detailed building interiors, using open standard database formats. The presentation will also cover new advancements for the generation of correlated terrain outputs for a variety of popular formats, including JSAF, OneSAF, and VBS2.
Live Product Demonstrations
Demonstrations will focus on the latest Presagis product updates, how you can leverage CDB within the Presagis software tool suite, and how to generate intelligent and sophisticated entity simulation models.
Partner Technology Demonstrations
